Privacy for Samba Oelek

Samba Oelek plays videos from your SMB shares on Apple TV. I do not operate a video server for the app and do not receive a copy of your media library.

Videos and network access

Samba Oelek discovers SMB servers on your local network and reads the shares you select. The app processes server addresses, device and share names, folders, file names, file metadata, and video and audio data to display folders, generate thumbnails and play videos.

For protected shares, the app uses the username, domain (if provided) and password you enter to sign in to the selected server. That server receives the connection and authentication requests. Its operator may log access. The app does not change or delete files on the server.

The app does not send your videos, file names or credentials to me. It contains no advertising, developer-operated analytics service or additional app account. The included playback libraries process media on Apple TV. Automatic network requests for cover artwork are disabled.

Local storage and deletion

Saved server settings remain in the app’s storage on Apple TV. Passwords are stored in the device’s Keychain. Thumbnails and video buffers are held in memory during use and discarded as needed.

Server settings remain saved until the app’s data is deleted, for example by deleting the app. You can replace a saved password by saving a different password for the same server and user. Uninstalling the app does not necessarily delete Keychain data.

You can revoke local network access in Apple TV settings. Samba Oelek will then be unable to access shares as intended. I cannot access your locally stored data or delete it remotely.

Support requests

If you write to [email protected], I process your email address, message and the information you provide to handle your request. I use Google Workspace to send and receive email. Google processes the email data to provide this service. Processing outside the EU or EEA, particularly in the USA, is possible. Google describes safeguards for international data transfers, including standard contractual clauses, in its Cloud Data Processing Addendum. Please do not send passwords or private videos that are not necessary for your request.

I handle requests about your purchase or use of the app under Article 6(1)(b) GDPR. Other requests are handled under Article 6(1)(f) GDPR. My legitimate interest is to respond to your enquiry.

I retain correspondence for as long as needed to handle your request and necessary follow-up questions. I then delete it unless statutory retention requirements or legitimate reasons for defending legal claims require otherwise.

App Store and Apple

Purchases, payments and downloads take place through the App Store. Apple processes the necessary data independently. I do not receive payment details or Apple Account credentials through Samba Oelek.

Apple’s privacy policy applies to data Apple processes, for example for the App Store or according to your system settings.

Your rights

Where I process your personal data, you may request access, correction, deletion, restriction of processing and data portability, subject to the applicable legal requirements. Write to [email protected].

Where processing is based on legitimate interests, you may object on grounds relating to your particular situation. You may withdraw consent at any time with effect for the future.

You may complain to a data protection supervisory authority, particularly where you live. The authority responsible for me is the Berlin Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information.
